Hello, I decided this would be a good place to share how are we doing during this pandemic. I live in Panama, as of tomorrow we are in total lockdown. We have only one hour a day to go get supplies. The last number of your ID tells you during which time slot you are allowed to go out for essentials. All businesses except supermarkets, farmacies and hospitals are closed. Some government offices are open, most are closed. Our beaches are closed. No flights in or out. Borders closed. My business unfortunately is one of those ordered to be closed. Everybody home.
My husband is a heavy smoker (40 yr old) I am 61. So we are both health risks. In addition, I take care of my mom, who is 87. She lives next door, but I do all her shopping.
On a positive note, I have food for 2 weeks, and we are all healthy.

Take care you all.

We had a few anxious days when our daughter went down with covid-19, but she is recovering well. She is an A&E nurse and had treated elderly patients brought in with acute respiritory failure which turned out to be due to it, and presumably contracted it from one of them. She felt rotten for two days then perked up, and now five days later is a lot better, but can't go back to work until she is out of isolation. Her partner and children have had to into isolation with her, but that has made little difference with schools and workplaces shut anyway.

The College where I teach has dispersed and all teaching and assessing is now online, so I'm writing online study guides instead of lesson plans, but the courses should finish on time.
We are on 'social distancing' rather than a full 'lockdown' - staying at home mainly but can go out occasionally (no set times) for shopping and daily exercise, keeping 2m away from other people.

I see only four of us; SLK, Inamorata, myself and Tamar12, have visited in the past nine days. AGL is truely a pale shadow of it's old self.

Hello Tamar12, I see you have been a member of 18 months but never posted. What brings you here?

I live in Dallas TX. I teach preK. All schools are closed indefinitely and are online learning only. We have a shelter in place order and fines can be given for failure to follow social distancing. We can still do take out, but Mark and I are not. We do not trust the workers. Both Mark and I are high risk: he has kidney disease and I have asthma. We only go out for groceries or to get ex. I do the shopping wearing a mask and gloves. We disinfect groceries, our shoes, mail, and hand wash. I am teaching online. We have our doggie babies who are here with us.

My Mom is 71 living with my bro and his wife. She is in NM. She is scared being older. My bro is considered essential. My sister-in-law is laid off until coronavirus bottoms out

Take care all of you. Several people I know have contracted Covid. So far they are all ok. My family is in the high risk group, starting with my mom, who is 87, I am 61, Nick is a smoker, and my son suffers from asthma. We now have only 3 days a week to go out, Mon-Wed-Fri for women, Tue, Thurs-Sat for men. But I have to go to work tomorrow on men's day, so I have a pass. I hope I do not end up in court.

Thought I would respond after seeing this...I've been a member for a while but never posted :(

My corona experience has been rough for me...though I am very very lucky considering the world. I can work from home, have kept my job, and though I know a couple people who've gotten sick, they've all recovered. My main problem is being bored from being cooped up all the time. I haven't been able to exercise like I like to. I've done some videos and some running but I miss swimming and weights a lot. My eating hasn't been great either. I'm trying to count my blessings though...things could be a lot worse!

Welcome Ian25! You must the the first new poster for some weeks. This used to be a very lively site.
I'm also missing swimming. Just as you say, there is that awareness that it is much worse for some.

It's been quite positive for me to be honest. I get to work from home now which is awesome as I save 2-3 hours on commute time as well as not having to deal with crowded trains, trains that run late, get cancelled etc.

I love that when I sign off at the end of a shift I am already home. I think that will be the way of the future for businesses and work types that can do that.

I don't go out much anyway and live cheap so overall, no real damage for me.

I thank God I have a job for 2020-2021 as I just signed my contract. I really couldn’t tell you what school will look like in August, but until the rates go way down, I believe we should stick to online learning. All my summer training will be virtual webinars. I would not mind online teaching at all except it is difficult with the age I teach 3-5 year olds.

I do not have children, but I do have doggies. It’s been great spending time with my hubby and doggie babies. The hardest part for me is I would love to get some take-out, but don’t trust anything right now. I rarely go out, but when I do I wear a mask, gloves, and have plenty of disinfectant.

Yes, that must be very different indeed to dealing with my older teenage and adult learners....... Fortunately the examining boards have decided to go for 'calculated grades' for this term: we extrapolate from their grades for term 1 and 2 work and assume there might have been a slight improvement, rather than expect the students to produce their normal term 3 work. Naturally with 3 - 5 year olds the aim will be broad developement rather than specific grades, so you don't have that way out.

I contracted covid in April and went on to develop pneumonia. I was on oxygen for about 2 months and took the hydroxy/azithro/zinc cocktail. I developed other health issues that I'm still dealing with. I'm told to expect a 6-12 month recovery. Our grandmother died of covid after spending a week on a vent and our grandfather has it currently. Part of our family is quarantined since they had direct contact with her because they transported her to the hospital. We cannot even have a funeral until they release her body which they won't do until they are sure there is no risk of her body being contagious. Covid has been brutal for our family.

Angel, I am so sorry to read of this. Brutal indeed! This is terrible news, but I am glad that you are recovering.

Hi Angel, this is so sad to hear. I hope that your family is able to have a memorial service for your grandmother when that becomes possible. I missed a relative's funeral a few winters back when a vicious storm stopped all flights and ferries for weeks to the island where she lived. It made me realize the enormous benefit of having these services for all involved. It is so important to come together to remember those we love.

For yourself, please be patient in your healing. I know some people, even young and healthy individuals, who have taken some time to recover. Just rest when your body tells you to rest and love your body back to health.

I am so sorry Angel. I know this has been really tough for you and your family. I applied for an alternate work assignment (at home) since Mark has stage III kidney disease and I have asthma making us both high risk. We got a new doggie baby in July, a ten-year-old blind Pekingese named Polly.

Thanks Inamorata, Ian25, and LJ. <3

We were able to have a memorial service for her in August. Everything was extremely limited; viewing limit was 10 people, funeral was 30, and graveside allowed the remainder of family/friends provided they wore masks. She came from a large family and had a large family circle, so her children had to pick and choose who was part of the 10 and 30. That felt like a cruel burden to place on them. We were part of the 10 and 30 so we were able to see her one last time and place personal items with her (photo and a bear that held some of our son's ashes).

I'm trying to be patient with my own health but I never thought I'd still be dealing with any of this months later. When I developed covid in early April the news was reporting about a 2 week illness so that's what I expected. I knew that timeline changed once I developed pneumonia but I never expected this much of a change. I developed a handful of health issues post-covid that I never had prior. Most have since resolved with the exception of shortness of breath, fatigue, and tachycardia so I need to see a cardiologist to rule out any heart damage and, if cleared, I'll begin a beta blocker and start in-home PT/OT to see if we can get me over this last hurdle. A lot of people are experiencing post viral fatigue so that's what I'm sort of hoping is going on with me.

2020 has been a heck of a year for so many.

Wishing you well, Angel.

Our principal's grandaughter was an early covid-19 sufferer in March and suffered some alarming long-lasting effects, that led to fears the harm might be permanent, but she has now made a full recovery at last, so here's hoping you do the same soon.
